Search Me O God!
Search me, O God and know my heart!
Try me and know my anxious thoughts!
And see if there be any grievances in me,
and lead me in the way everlasting!
Psalm 139: 23-24 (NIV)
A Psalm of David.
David invites God to look intently into his heart. We should ask the same pf God. David then gives God permission to test him and to know what was on his mind. David asks God to look for anything that would cause grief in His heart. Also, David asks to be led by God forever.
Shouldn't we, each Christ follower, ask God to search our hearts and reveal our intentions in order to prepare us for the privilege of being led by God as we go through our days?
When we ask God to search our hearts, we ask Him to look for things we grumble about. (The weather, the traffic, those who get on our nerves, the actions of our children, etc.)
When we ask Him to do this we may find ourselves surprised at what He reveals to us. Since I asked Him to do this, I have found myself more peaceful about certain issues I face in my life.
