How Should We Pray?

 

In my reading of A.W. Tozer, I ran across a statement that has caused me

to stop and think. He states that there are certain areas of seeking God's

guidance and His answers to our requests in which we we do not know how to pray.

Tozer explains that we sometimes ask God to bless us and then give us

what we want. Sometimes we pray this way, and it is not what He wants

for us.

He tells his readers that we should seek God's will and ask Him for

His desires for the circumstances we see around us and wish Him to change in our lives and the lives of the church.

This is a huge challenge for me. I have to study the situation and then think of how God sees it. Then I have to ask Him “if it is in Your will,” before I present my petitions.

Tozer also reminds us that God answers petitions that we ask in Jesus' Name.

I find these things fascinating. I definitely have tried to add these approaches to my praying to Him. There is one petition that I have made for quite some time. This past week, I received a phone call from our church office. The administrator told me that progress had been made on the situation about which I had been praying.
